It is said that Barcelona is a city that never sleeps. In reality, the atmosphere in and  around Barcelona leads you more to the meditation than to sleepiness. Two of this kind of  destinations are Montserrat (40 km from Barcelona) and Garraf (25 kilometers from Barcelona). The first one is situated in the mountain area and the second one to the sea, between Castelldefels and Sitges, also popular destinations, especially for the summer.

In Montserrat, the most popular is the health tourism, while the Garraf everything goes around the historic center and the local attractions. During the week would be advisable to go to Montserrat, after you have visited La Pedrera, one of the most important works of Antonio Gaudi from Barcelona. Only after doing this you can realize how the nature influenced the Spanish master. The special feature of the mountains can be considered modernist. Montserrat is the place where you can hear a lot of legends. For example, there is one that says that Parsifal discovered the Holy Grail here, while others say that Saint Peter has put, in one of the many caves in the mountains, a Black Madonna, which now is inside of the sanctuary that was build on the mountain.

If religion is not exactly your strong point, however, do not avoid these places, a paradise for walkers lovers. In addition, do not miss to taste a piece of goat cheese, traditional in these places, and not miss the chance to spend the night at the Montserrat Monistrol. Here, after visiting the medieval center, you can head to the inn in the market, which offers on a reasonably price, rooms from where you can admire some amazing mountain views.

If you want to relax after a agitated week, choose Garraffe, a fishing village where modernism didn´t get yet and you can enjoy a traditional life. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the white houses with flowers in the windows invite its guests to relax. Garaffe is the best place to meditate, and if you want to taste traditional food, a downtown restaurant offers” Canas y Tapas “(snacks and beer). Remember though, even that you are in Spain, before all you are in Catalonia. So, when you enter in a public place in the morning, politely say ¨Buen dia¨’ or ” bona tarda ” (if afternoon) and in your way out just say  ¨adeu¨.

If you are planning a vacation in or around the beautiful Barcelona and you did not booked yet, have a look on Barcelona rentals or Barcelona property for sale.
