Enjoy a Journey to Milford Sound
Milford Sound is one of the most beautiful pieces of scenery in a country with already high standards. Its pristine waters, luscious greenery and abundance of wildlife are, as such, quite separated from the hustle bustle of main roads and civilisation. This means that to enjoy the must-experience Milford Sound cruise, one must first organise the transport of getting there.
The most popular transport option for tourists wishing to see Milford Sound hassle-free is via a coach or bus, which takes you directly to the beginning of your cruise. Milford Sound coach cruise tours depart from Queenstown or TeAnau and take passengers through the Fiordland National Park with accompanying commentary that gives each valley and mountain range so much more to appreciate about them. These tours also allow for photo stops and short walks to give you the opportunity to really get in touch with nature and form some vivid memories to take back from your holiday. For a little extra money, you can even opt for the five star experience of a glass-roof coach with reclining seats. The trees are tall, the mountains high and the sky full of birds. With a glass roof you wouldn’t miss an inch of the journey. Milford Sound coach cruise tours are the best start to the experience of a lifetime as you can relax and enjoy the scenery, letting someone else do the driving.
If you do want to be a little more in control of your timetable and stop-overs though, there is always the self-drive option. By driving your own car you can take in the scenery at your own pace and do a little exploring along the way. Just be sure to have a full tank of fuel, a charged battery in your camera, and a packed lunch as the trip will be at least two hours long from TeAnau and double that if you are setting off from Queenstown. You also won’t want to miss a photo opportunity – and you can be sure there will be plenty.
To experience Milford Sound from a different perspective, there is also a flight travel option. Planes depart Queenstown airport and take passengers directly to the departure point of their cruise cutting down a lot of travel time, which is perfect if you are on a tight holiday schedule. A fly-cruise-fly package allows you to experience Milford Sound in about four hours total as opposed to the full day option of driving or bussing to and from the cruise departure point.
There is also a fly-back option where travellers take a coach through the Fiordland to the cruise departure point; they then cruise up and back the scenic Milford Sound; then at the end they fly back to Queenstown where they began. With the flight taking about 35 minutes, this travel option cuts down a bit of time but, more impressively, allows you to enjoy the views of the Fiordland and Milford Sound from road, sea and air all in one package.
